Surprise Win for Baltimore Man
$30,000 Top Prize on Tripling Star Crossword
Scratch-off
(Baltimore) – “I am still in shock,” said the 45-year-old Lottery
player. He came to Lottery Headquarters to cash what he thought was
a $1000 winning Tripling Star Crossword Scratch-off ticket.
To his surprise, Lottery officials told him that he’d won $30,000!
Yesterday, the
father-of-three, bought some scratch-offs as he often does and took
them home to scratch. He says the crosswords are a little hard to
understand, so if he thinks he has a winner, he’ll take it back to
the store and have them scan it. This time, the message said to come
to Lottery Headquarters. “I knew I’d won something big and told my
wife it was probably for $1000,” he said. “I still can’t believe
this is actually happening.” He said his wife and family still don’t
know about the amount of his prize because he left his cell phone at
home and couldn’t call them.
The big winner
said he is going to donate some of his windfall to his local church
and help out some friends. He also said that his family needs a new
car and they were saving up for one. “Now we can get it,” he sighed.
The lucky player said, in addition, his oldest daughter’s birthday
is tomorrow and he would like to do something special for her.
The winning
ticket was purchased at the 7-11 located at 1801 Reisterstown Rd. in
Baltimore.
