Fool’s Gold: April Fools Joke Becomes a Reality
Havre de Grace Woman Wins $50,000 on Pirates Gold Scratch-off
(Baltimore) –An April prankster found
her joke coming true this week. On April 1st, a Harford
county woman played a joke on her son, calling to claim she just won
$50,000 on a scratch-off. Two weeks later, the joke became reality
when the woman unearthed a $50,000 top-prize with a Pirate’s Gold
scratch-off.
The winner, a supervisor at a
Bel Air healthcare facility, regularly purchases scratch-offs
and coffee on the way to work. She scratched her ticket while taking
a work break. When one of the symbols on the ticket, an anchor,
matched another symbol, she knew she had won $50,000. “I called my
son and told him that I had won, but he didn’t believe me this
time,” she said. Her son said he wouldn’t fall for the joke again.
Before driving home to share the news
with her husband, she returned to the store to confirm the win with
a clerk. “I handed her the ticket and said ‘Let me show you
something,’” said the winner. Store owner Rocky Patel was happy to
see a big $50,000 win at his store. “Everybody’s happy. It’s good to
see a regular customer win,” said Patel.
The lucky lady plans to share some of
the winnings with her son for being a good sport. “He deserves
something for the joke I played on him,” she said. The rest of the
winnings may be deposited into a retirement account. The winning
ticket was purchased at E-Z Quick Food Market, located at 801
Revolution Street in Havre de Grace.
