Jack Frost
Turns into Cold Hard Cash for Hyattsville Woman
Wins $50,000 Top Prize on Scratch-Off
(Baltimore) – A young man’s
advice really paid off for a Hyattsville woman yesterday. The
retired Federal Government worker stopped at a local convenience
store after dropping her granddaughters off at school. While she was
there, she was approached by a young man who told her to buy Jack
Frost scratch-offs. According to the man, he’d won $540 last
year, playing the Jack Frost ticket. Saying she had no money
and no inclination to buy that particular scratch-off, the woman
left the store. “I thought to myself, I’m not buying any of those,”
she said.
Only four hours later, she stopped at
another store. Seeing Jack Frost she remembered the man’s
suggestion and bought two tickets. The first had no matches, but the
second was the big winner. “I almost passed out,” she said. “I owe
that young man a big thank you.” After quietly leaving the store,
she got in her car and screamed with excitement.
The 59-year-old shared the news with her
husband, who responded with disbelief. The delighted winner said she
intends to donate money to her church, pay bills, buy some furniture
and take her granddaughters on a trip.
The winning ticket was purchased at
Riggs BP in Hyattsville.
