Aberdeen Man Milks Grocery Store Visit for $250,000
Wins Mega Millions Second-Tier Prize

(
Baltimore) – A routine trip to Klein’s grocery store to get milk for his twin daughters turned out to be a life-changing event for Robert Kroening, Jr. “I went in for milk and creamer and just decided to buy a couple of Lottery tickets,” exclaimed the Mega Millions second-tier prize winner.  The self-employed ceramic tile installer said he plays occasionally and buys Mega Millions tickets when the jackpot gets big. His wife Debbie, who was waiting in the car, wasn’t very happy when he returned with more than just the grocery items.

The high school sweethearts, who will celebrate 17 years of marriage this Friday, found out they won on Sunday morning when Rob called the Lottery’s winning numbers line.  After he heard the fifth number, his hands began to shake.  Debbie didn’t believe him, so she called the winning numbers line herself.  Sure enough, the numbers were confirmed. They hid the winning ticket in a cabinet at home until they were able to visit Lottery headquarters on Tuesday. “I’m still in denial,” said Rob, shaking his head.

The father-of-four plans to pay bills and take a family vacation to Myrtle Beach. The ticket was purchased at Klein’s #4246, located at
1321 Riverside Parkway in Belcamp.  The retailer will receive a $1,000 commission check for selling a winning second-tier Mega Millions ticket.

The Lottery awaits another $250,000 winner from Friday night’s drawing, sold at McKay’s Food & Drug in St. Mary’s County.  Since July,
Maryland has produced two jackpot and 16 second-tier Mega Millions winners.  Since there was no top-tier winner Friday, tonight’s drawing is worth $220 million.
