Howard County Couple Wins $2.85 Million Multi-Match Top-Tier Prize

(Baltimore) – A 53-year-old Clarksville man stopped at the River Hill Sunoco this morning for coffee just like he always does.  Only today, everyone was buzzing in the store about the mystery $2.85 million Multi-Match winner from Saturday night’s drawing.  Knowing that his wife usually buys her tickets there, he called to let her know that a winning ticket was sold there.

An hour later, she pulled out her ticket and called the store.  The employee read the first three numbers to her.  That’s all she had to hear.  “I read him my last three numbers and he told me, ‘I think you won’,” she said. The 52-year-old financial institution manager told Lottery officials that she immediately called her husband, who didn’t believe her.

The high school sweethearts, who have been married for 33 years, called their three children right away.  The whole family then drove to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize.  The couple is undecided as to whether they will choose the $2.85 million annuity or the $1.8 million cash option.

The husband summed it up by saying, “This is the most surreal day ever.” When asked about his wife’s good fortune, he added jokingly, “I love her more today!”  The winning ticket was purchased at River Hill Sunoco, located at 5015 Signal Bell Lane in Clarksville.
