Thanksgiving Win Makes History for Retired Firefighter
Timonium Man Wins $250,000 Prize Playing Mega Millions

(Baltimore) – Carl Becker and his wife Lee are celebrating their own version of the holidays. A cornucopia of luck made this year more like “Thankswinning.” Carl’s ticket for the Thanksgiving night Mega Millions drawing made him a $250,000 second-tier prize winner. Lee, his wife of 52 years, and family historian, plans to put the good news in the family history book.

The retired Baltimore County firefighter was picking up bread for a Thanksgiving dinner with family when he purchased the ticket. That night, the family gathered for dinner and Carl didn’t bother to check his ticket. The next morning, Carl looked at the Lottery results in the newspaper, and, when he matched every number except the Mega ball, he knew he had won. “It looked good to me,” said Carl. He didn’t know that he had actually won $250,000 until he called Lottery headquarters.

Carl and Lee plan to share the win with their children and start college savings for each of their three grandchildren. They also plan to make a contribution to the Lutheran Mission Society.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Mars, located at 15 Padonia Road in Lutherville.
